Are we the “Under-Appreciation Nation?”
OGO asked 1,000 people about the role recognition plays in their lives. An astounding 70% of Americans feel underappreciated. And 83% admit they could do more to recognize others.
So OGO is hitting the road this July on the first-ever “Recognition Road Trip” down iconic Route 66 to inspire people to recognize their OGO – their “O Great One!” – for being the awesome people they are, and for doing the great things they do.
Like the teacher who inspired a student to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams. Or the neighbor who shovels the elderly couple’s driveway on snowy days before they even wake up!
On July 11th, we leave Chicago from Lou Mitchell’s Diner, the original starting point of Route 66, and arrive at Santa Monica Pier on July 24th (assuming all goes well!) Along the way, we want people to tell us their stories so we can share them with you, and in doing so, draw attention to this “recognition deficit” that, together, we can so easily fix.
We are going back to the days of small town America. The days of drinking sweet tea on the front porch with neighbors who were more like family. The days of diners, penny candy, and town carnivals. The days before cell phones (can you believe that time actually existed?), and the days when personal connections between people were cherished, everyday occurrences, not something to be avoided or reserved for special occasions.
We are going to talk to people we meet along the way about the amazing people in their lives and actually give them the opportunity to recognize their OGOs for the wonderful things they do.
