Recognition makes people feel valued. And giving it makes you feel like you’ve made a difference in someone’s life.

Recognition is SO much more than a “thank you” because it requires some thought, and maybe just a touch of effort.

OGO wanted to understand “what types of actions make people feel recognized?” The good news--all it takes is heartfelt, personal contact. In our survey we learned:*

  • 60% of people say spending quality time together is how they recognize others
  • 76% of people have kept a handwritten note they’ve received
  • Personal, thoughtful, homemade gifts are considered priceless and will be
    cherished forever
  • 72% recognize someone at work by being friendly and saying hello

That is really all it takes! So here are five easy ways for you to recognize someone in your life:

  1. Put down the technology. Turn off the iPads and smartphones for one night and spend quality time together. Explore a park or treat someone to lunch.
  2. Call them if you can’t meet in person. Rather than text or email, take the time to pick up the phone to say hello.
  3. Write a note! There is nothing more personal or thoughtful – or handmade – than a handwritten note that expresses your gratitude and appreciation.
  4. Help out with an errand or chore. Do the dishes for the week, offer to babysit one evening, or act as their chauffeur around town for a day!
  5. Share their story and what they mean to you. Tell everyone who your OGO is, and why they are so amazing
